Phase One: (Step 2) List of Items You Need

List of Items You Need For Phase One

 I love lists.

They decrease my anxiety, and allow me to see on paper exactly what I need, and what I'm doing. So I'm going to start with that, and then explain step by step what you need to do with all of these items.

I bet many of these items you already have in your home. If not, the first time doing this will be a bigger investment, but every time after that will not be much money.

I'm going to list items for a grow with 10 quart jars of grain spawn.

If you click on the links below, and order from here, it will help me out. I am an amazon associate.

I have personally used the majority of products, or substituted ones that were like the items I used, but are no longer available.

🟧 10 wide mouth quart jars with lids and bands

🟧 If you don't have the quart lids and bands, you can buy them here - 24 count

🟧 1 sheet of adhesive micropore 0.3 micron filters for your lid

🟧 1 sheet of adhesive micropore self-healing injection ports for your lid

🟧 1/4 inch drill bit

🟧 Drill

🟧 Small stack of cardboard 4 inches thick (this is what you will drill into)

🟧 1 large trash bag, to put on the bottom of your work space. It will catch the small metal pieces that come from drilling into the lids.

🟧 16 quart stainless steel pot

🟧 5 pounds of organic rye berries - they have to be organic or it will kill the mycelium

🟧 1 pound gypsum powder

🟧 2 large colanders that hang inside your sink

🟧 23 Quart Pressure Cooker

🟧 Tinfoil

🟧 Large silicon oven mitt that covers your forearm and hand

🟧 Flat mop for cleaning your walls in clean room

🟧  Cleaning supplies to disinfect your clean area

🟧 Face mask

🟧 Hair net

🟧 1 box of disposable gloves. Believe me, you will need a whole box of these!

🟧 Folding table to help in your clean room with inoculation

🟧 2 bottles of 70% isopropyl alcohol

🟧 1 box of alcohol prep pads (you will use only 20 or so)

🟧 Roll of paper towels: open right before inoculation

🟧 2 spray bottles and heads These two will be used for the 2 bottles of isopropyl alcohol. If you want one for bleach, then get more.

🟧 Mushroom spore syringes and needles, 4 syringes that are 10 cc each. This is where I got mine. He includes with the spore syringe a sterile needle for each syringe. That is good. That is what you will want to use. One needle for each spore syringe.

🟧 Clean underwear, clothes, and towel in your dryer. You won't take it out of the dryer until you are ready to do so. Read the steps below. Or... even better if you just remain naked during the inoculation period.

🟧 Black sharpie marker

🟧 Label or painters tape

🟧 Box with a lid. It can be multiple boxes if needed. The quart jars will need to fit in the box, with the lid on. The jars will need to be in darkness as the mycelium is growing. After I bought my pressure cooker, I realized that box was the perfect size for this. It fit all 10 jars, with some extra room. I just shoved an old towel in there, so the jars were packed in tight.

🟧 Thermometer and Humidity Reader, you won't need the humidity part for phase one, but the thermometer is helpful to find out what temperature your grain spawn is growing in.
