Disclaimer: What are Your Intentions For Growing or Using?
Turn Off HVAC And Spray Alcohol In Clean Room (4-6 Hours Before Inoculation)
What does inoculate mean? You will often hear people use that word in relation to healthcare, like a vaccine. You inoculate someone with the vaccine.
When you are injecting someone or something with a vaccine, a germ, or a spore, it's called inoculation.
Four to six hours before you are going to inoculate the grain with mushroom spores, you want the HVAC system turned off. This will stop blowing air around your clean room. Spores, virus', and bacteria are everywhere in our world. Often they are so small, and so light, they will be in the air.
The HVAC system will take these spores and germs and disperse them throughout the house, including into your clean room.
- Turn off the HVAC system. Wait 20 minutes.
- Take off your clothes. They will often be carrying all kinds of spores.
- Put on a mask, gloves, and hairnet.
- DO NOT OPEN THE WINDOW!!! The alcohol is going to stink so much, but you just have to suck it up. Do quick work!
- Go inside the clean room, slowly opening the door and slowly closing the door.
- As you enter and exit the clean room, try not to open the door super fast, or you will have extra spores enter the room through the disturbed air.
- Use the alcohol on a paper towel to clean the alcohol bottle and sprayer.
- Spray the 70% isopropyl alcohol from top to bottom, the whole room, and everything in the room.
- Do not open the window - there are lots of spores outside!
- I sprayed EVERYTHING! I sprayed the air, the toilet, the bathtub, the sink and counters.
- Second to the last step is to spray down everything on your table (DO NOT OPEN UP YOUR NEEDLES!!).
- You can spray the outside packages, and outside of
the spore syringes. Spray the outside of the box of alcohol wipes. Be
sure to spray all the sides of everything on the table. You want to kill
any type of spores that are hanging out on these surfaces.
- Spraying the alcohol in the air is the very last step. You will need to leave the bathroom after you spray the air. It gets very strong and hard to breath.
- You are spraying it in the air, to grab onto spores and dust that is in the air. These can be contaminants for your grow.
- I didn't wipe anything down. I already did that with the bleach. This was just another disinfection, trying to kill all spores that are in the room.
1 Hour Before Inoculation - Shower And Spray Down The Clean Room With Alcohol Again
- You're getting super serious here about maintaining a clean area as much as possible.
- It
takes over 3 minutes of direct contact with isopropyl alcohol, to kill
germs and spores. THREE MINUTES! This is why I do one last alcohol spray
before starting. I want those germs killed right before I start.
- This is one of the easiest places for contamination to happen. So take this seriously! Look at all the steps you have already completed. Don't get lazy on my now!
- Take a shower. Be sure to wash with soap, every inch of your body, and shampoo and condition your hair.
- Use
a clean towel to dry off. I mean it! You want to use a towel just out
of the dryer, not one that has been sitting in the cupboard for awhile.
That would allow lots of spores to get on the towel. After a towel goes
through the dryer, the spores are killed.
- Do
not put your clothes on. Clean underwear is alright. If you have to put
clothes on, put on clean clothes just out of the dryer.
- Put on a mask and hairnet.
- Put on gloves.
- Gently open the door to your clean room (you don't want to disturb the air!), and slowly and gently close the door.
- Spray down your gloves.
- Spray down a paper towel, and wipe down the alcohol bottle and sprayer.
- Spray down just the air in the room, and quickly the top of the table and everything on it. Top to bottom.
- Gently open the door and exit.
- Gently close the door.
- Keep the door closed.
- If you can keep your clothes off, that would be best.
